Formed in 1947, the Anchorage Amateur Radio Club serves the entire 1,963 square miles of the Municipality of Anchorage—spanning from the northern reaches at Eklutna on the Glenn Highway to the southern reaches just past Portage on the Seward Highway. Our coverage includes Anchorage proper, Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson (JBER), Eagle River, Chugiak, Peters Creek, Eklutna, Indian, Bird Creek, Girdwood, and Portage.
Our technical infrastructure is extensive, featuring numerous voice repeaters, packet digipeaters, VHF/UHF/HF Winlink RMSs, an APRS iGate, and a high-speed AREDN mesh network. The club’s home is the Radio Science and Operations Center (RSOC), located at the former FCC monitoring station in west Anchorage. From there, the facility supports five HF stations, a satellite station, and an assortment of VHF/UHF and interoperability equipment.
Beyond technical operations, the club operates the Anchorage ARC VEC, offers license prep and STEM education courses, and is the primary sponsor of ARES in the Anchorage area.
