The Southern Counties Amateur Radio Club is a forward-looking group that welcomes new hams and fresh ideas. We focus on hands-on learning, practical operating skills, and building real-world communications experience.

We host Field Day-style outings twice a year at a local state park, including overnight operations. These events emphasize quick, field-expedient station setups and emergency communications readiness.

The club owns and operates two VHF repeaters. The 146.880 repeater is analog and linked to the 147.090 repeater in Ava, Illinois. The 145.370 Yaesu repeater supports both analog FM and C4FM digital voice.

Club activities also include periodic tours of the National Weather Service, seasonal social gatherings at local restaurants, and ongoing experimentation with antennas, digital modes, grid-down scenarios, and alternative communication methods. Fellowship and shared learning are central to everything we do.

License testing sessions are held during club meetings. Candidates must contact w9ry@w9ry.com in advance to arrange testing and must obtain an FCC FRN prior to the exam.
