HF Call Frequency?

Given the numerous frequencies available on 40/20/17m, what is the best way to initiate a contact with SSB voice? Is there such a thing as an initial HF call frequency where others listen?

I feel like this should be a simple matter and I am greatly missing something.

Thanks.

Traditionally, when the ham bands were open the voice frequencies would fill up from end to end and the only logical choice was to call CQ on the first clear frequency you could find. If you have a panadapter a better approach may be to watch for the clearest frequency for a few minutes before asking if a frequency is in use.
